Operating Principles:         Back to Top

Instead of paper or cartridges, fluids are filtered through a horizontal stack of uniquely molded plastic discs.  Two types of disc surfaces are stacked in alternating order:  one disc surface is flat with ultra-fine grooves on both sides.  The contacting disc surface has raised "lands" on both sides, also with ultra-fine grooves.
When the discs are placed together, their grooves intersect across the surface of the lands to create a filtering labyrinth.  Fluid is able to enter the thousands of micro-channels within this labyrinth while suspended particles cannot, gradually building up in the area outside the lands.
Starting with a clean disc stack, the pump fills the filter chamber with contaminant-laden fluid.  The air relief valve at the top of the filter chamber is vented to remove air from the system.  Once operation begins, particles larger than 10 microns begin to collect outside the lands, forming an initial layer of contaminants.

Subsequent particles impinge on this layer during operation, finally trapping particles as small as 1 micron.  When such extremely fine filtration is required from the outset, the disc stack can be precoated with a layer of filter aid such as diatomaceous earth mixed in the slurry tank.

When a predetermined back pressure is reached, the filter is filled and ready for cleaning.  Release the four swing bolts and lift out the entire disc stack.  Place the stack into the cleaning station where air agitation separates and rotates the discs while the air bubbles scour off the dirt.  In just a few minutes, the stack is ready for service again.

  • Lower direct operating cost.
  • No costly disposal of used paper or cartridges.

  • Greatly reduces hazardous waste disposal costs.
  • Discs can be precoated, and retain precoat even after shutdown.
  • Saves time and provides filtering performance down to one micron.
  • Double sided discs have large sludge holding capacity.
  • Reduced labor costs as a result of less frequent cleaning.
  • Discs have large filter area, allowing high flow rate in a small package.
  • Saves floor space.

  • Discs are stacked in an extendable support.
  • Fast, easy cleaning for lower labor costs.
  • Fast-acting "no tools" swing bolts.
  • Saves time, labor costs.
  • O-ring grooves are precision molded in corrosion-resistant CPVC or PVDF structure.
  • Lower maintenance due to improved seals.

  • Rugged construction, proven components.
  • Long life.
  • Compact design is portable through narrow aisles or can be installed in tight areas.
  • Easily placed wherever it is needed.

Model 3000S Perma-Disc® filter system, includes pump, slurry
tank, electrics, all pre-piped and mounted on a stainless steel base.
Optional carbon treatment chamber at rear.
Model 3000S equipped with air diaphragm for effluent waste  water polishing.  Variety of pump types available.  Filter stack can be seen through  cut-away in housing.

Custom designed units use "stack and chamber" as building block.  Four model 8000 filtering units with inlet/outlet headers and multiple pumps.
Air agitated cleaning station.  Bubbles separate and rotate discs while scrubbing dirt from discs.  Operator places stack into cleaning station,
then retrieves clean stack later.
