Operating Principles:            Back to Top

The same principles used in the original, larger Perma-DiscŪ filters for over ten years, have been scaled down from tanks holding thousands of gallons to tanks containing hundreds of gallons.  Instead of paper or cartridges, fluids are filtered through a horizontal stack of uniquely molded plastic discs.  Two types of disc surfaces are stacked in alternating order:  one disc surface is flat with ultra fine grooves on both sides.  The contacting disc surface has raised "lands" on both sides, also with ultra fine grooves.
When the discs are placed together, their grooves intersect across the surface of the lands to create a filtering labyrinth.  Fluid is able to enter the thousands of micro-channels within this labyrinth while suspended particles cannot, gradually building up in the area outside the lands.

Starting with a clean disc stack, the pump fills the filter chamber with contaminant-laden fluid.  Once operation begins, particles larger than 10 microns begin to collect outside the lands, forming an initial layer of contaminants.

Subsequent particles impinge on this layer during operation, finally trapping particles as small as 1 micron.  When such extremely fine filtration is required from the outset, the disc stack can be precoated with a layer of filter aid such as diatomaceous earth mixed in the slurry tank.

When a predetermined back pressure is reached, the filter is filled and ready for cleaning.  Release the cap and lift out the entire disc stack.  Place the stack into the cleaning station where air agitation separates and rotates the discs while the air bubbles scour off the dirt.  In just a few minutes, the stack is ready for service again.

FLOW RATES:           6 and 15 gpm.

CONFIGURATIONS:      *    Externally positioned systems with precoat capability.
                                        *    Systems located on tank rim, over the tank.
                                        *    Filter element and housing only.

Model 360 S filter system, complete
with horizontal pump, Perma-DiscŪ
stack and housing.    Slurry tank for
precoating, with piping.  Motor starter
on rear (not visible).  Note large plastic
wheels for easy mobility.  Can be used
for carbon treatment.
Model 360 AT with vertical pump
                 and Perma-DiscŪ filter assembly.
                 Pressure gage faces aisle.  Rugged,
                 adjustable clamps on both sides.
Discharge from filter can be piped to
suit.  The AT Series is designed for
                 applications such as precious metals
or other solutions where filtering within
the confines of the plating tank is
                 preferred.  Any dripping or spillage
falls back into the tank, prevents loss
                 of solution or difficult cleanups.
                     Model 360 S+C, top opening
housing and Perma-DiscŪ stack
assembly.  S + C Series, the "Stack
and Chamber" are the heart of the
Perma-DiscŪ technology. Recognizing
that many existing installations can
benefit from Perma-DiscŪ, the S + C
series can be retrofit in place of existing
filtration setups.
